Rambling Out in a Scout

Jason and Rachel recently headed out on a thousand-mile ramble in their 1972 International Harvester Scout ii.

Jason had a little over a month to get the Scout road ready to embark on its maiden voyage through Death Valley.  This 50 year old truck had not been driven more than 5 miles at a time since they acquired it in 2018.  So with the help of Sean from Anything Scout, they got to thrashing on it.

This trip was filled with blood, sweat, and tears (literally), but also fun and lasting memories with new and old friends.

New Legend 4x4 Scout Trip

Last full day of the trip was one of the biggest off road mileage days ahead which included a steep descent back into Owens Valley before hitting pavement.

Highlights include: Hitting the carburetor with a rock every 500 feet to make it up to Cerro Gordo, half of the brakes going out (it's full drum) in the first 100 miles, and the heater core exploding going up the grapevine.

Sometimes it takes going far outside your comfort zone to appreciate a journey to its fullest.
