The final testing for RambleRack took place at the same location our lead engineer Eric used to tune race trucks during his tenure as lead engineer at King Shocks.
A few years ago we set out to solve the problem of rattly insecure bike racks. How do you create the ultimate proving ground for a bike rack not being rattly or insecure? How about a whooped out desert test track in Barstow, CA where King Shocks does their race truck suspension tuning? That was Eric’s idea when it came time to prove the viability of the RambleRack® and what would become our patent pending VertLock™ geometry.
The test rig was a Ford Raptor with Camburg long travel kit. Shy of an actual race truck, this particular build is just about as far as you can go in something that still drives on the highway and doesn't have a roll cage. The point of sharing this is that to drive these sections of desert at 60 mph is something few vehicles are capable of doing. Even the most capable stock vehicles have no business hitting the type of compressions achieved in this test.
Recycled cutting boards from our UltraTable™ were used to get the Specialized P2 dirt jump bike to our desired test bike weight. This approach also had the benefit of creating a harsher test case due to the poor distribution of weight. Where a modern e-bike that weighs 63 lbs would have a nice low center of gravity helping to reduce the forces going into the bike rack, these test bikes were worst case scenario for how the weight is being distributed.
They’re designed to maybe take one or two before bending or breaking. But what if you’re driving off-road regularly? You’re bound to take more than just a couple of harsh impacts or compressions. Not to mention in many cases it will only take one rough hit for your bike to fall of the rack or incur damage to the frame, fork, or wheels.
Alright so you don't intend to hit race truck whoops with your bike on the back of your truck. Does RambleRack make sense for you?
